Network 1 Approved to Begin Wireless Program in Crestwood
Crestwood represents latest project in series of municipal agreement.
April 28, 2008: CRESTWOOD, Mo. --- Network 1 Communications has announced it will provide subscriber-based wireless Internet service for the entire city of Crestwood in St. Louis County. Crestwood Wireless, powered by Network 1, is the latest accomplishment in a campaign to bring a number of cities in the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area online with Network 1's wireless network services. The city of Crestwood signed an agreement with Network 1 at its Board of Aldermen meeting March 11. The agreement allows Network 1 to use city structures to set up a WiFi network that would provide residents with affordable wireless Internet citywide at no cost to the city.
According to a memo written by Helen Ingold, the city's Wireless Team Leader, the city of Crestwood began researching the viability of citywide wireless service in September 2006. The city's Wireless Team met with Network 1 on Nov. 27, 2007, when the company launched its first wireless network in O'Fallon, Mo.
Ingold wrote the Wireless Team was impressed with Network 1's business model and technical capabilities when it toured the wireless network in O'Fallon.
"This network system provides businesses and residents with affordable wireless access," wrote Ingold. "The implementation of such technology would rapidly give our City the technological edge when attracting new businesses."
Wireless Team member Gordon Shaffar stated at the meeting that the city of Crestwood has the potential to realize significant savings once Network 1's network is available.
"Network 1 Communications provides state of the art services at an affordable cost," Ingold wrote. "Our City's goal to position our City as a premier area for economic development is supported by introducing this wireless network system."
The city of O'Fallon was the first city in the country to set up a citywide, subscriber-based program with Network 1. Since then, the company has met with other municipalities to develop similar wireless network agreements, including the cities of Cottleville, Florissant, Kirkwood, St. Paul, Clayton and Dardenne Prairie. The company is currently in negotiations with more than a dozen municipalities across the region.
Subscribers can choose one of three options, all based on connectivity speed and ranging in price from $19.95 to $49.95 per month. Network 1 will offer new subscribers 30 days of free wireless connectivity. Crestwood residents can call Network 1's customer service hotline at 636-614-1364 for more information. Additional pricing and plan information will be released in the near future.
Deployment and implementation of the Network 1 wireless service will occur over the course of the next several months. Due to an unexpected increase in demand for this service, activation of individual accounts may vary. Activation schedules may also vary depending on the need for installing additional equipment.
The expansion of Network 1's wireless network furthers its mission to provide residents and visitors the ability to access the Internet from any home, business or public area within the city of Crestwood at affordable rates. The Network 1 team of executives, engineers and staff are committed to launching the nation's largest municipal wireless network. Crestwood Wireless combines an easy-to-install, low-cost service with high-quality, proven technology.
